My name is Victoria Vargas. I attend St. Gerald Catholic School and I was one of the final candidates for election for the Kid Governor of Nebraska. Now I am a member of the Nebraska Kid Governor’s Cabinet, and I feel very proud and excited to represent my school and community.
My platform is called “Don’t Feed Wildlife.” My three-point plan is simple but very important to me. My first idea is making signs and putting them up in parks, schools, and public places to remind people not to feed wildlife. My second idea is making videos to explain why feeding wildlife is harmful and how it can make animals depend on humans instead of finding food on their own. My final idea is asking schools to teach students that it is not right to feed wildlife and to explain how it can be dangerous for animals and people.
This issue matters to me because I love animals and I do not want to see them get hurt. Sometimes people think they are helping animals by feeding them, but they are actually causing harm. Animals can get sick from human food, forget how to find their own food, or become too comfortable around people. This can put them in danger and even cause them to lose their homes or their lives.
I chose this platform because I want wildlife to stay wild and safe. It makes me sad to think about animals suffering because of something that could be prevented. I believe we can do better if we are more aware and more kind to nature.
Students can support this platform by telling others not to feed wildlife, talking to their families about it, and sharing what they learn at school. Even small actions can make a big difference. If we all work together, we can protect animals and make Nebraska a safer place for wildlife to live.
